A broad Smiley welcome at the gate - DOTS Montessori, HSR Layout, Bangalore

From the eyes of a parent

I was really concerned about my child. He's been with me always. He's never been on his own or with others for 2.6 years. However, I had to let him play with the other kids and improve his learning skills and the only option available was a Montessori based learning module.

 Concerns:

1. Will the teachers at the Montessori show him the same love?
2. Will he have trouble going to potty?
3. Will he get adjusted with the other kids?
4. Will he participate in the activities of the school?
and more... :-)

Well, this has been my experience:-

1. A teacher regularly for the past 14 days waits for the students at the gate. Cheerful smile and welcoming the children into the school. She carries him right into the class room and hands him over to another teacher - class teacher

2. While the teacher attends to my son at the gate. The attendant immediately picks up his school bag and helps the teacher remove my son's footwear. All in co-ordination so as to make this child feel easy when he get's into the class room.

3. I was still not convinced and peeped through the window to see what they were doing inside.
I was surprised to see my son taking part in the activities. They indeed made him feel at home. Very friendly people and a great atmosphere to learn.

4. No potty trouble, because my son came back and tells me that he called out to the teacher when he wanted to use the Lou. (I in-fact had his potty training done)

5. I guess the only thing left out is to find out his friend-making-skills :-) I'm sure the teachers will guide him to improve that skill too.

So, here's what I would say "Dots Montessori" you're doing a great job! Thank you!

Dots Montessori school in HSR Layout | Sir Ken Robinson's thoughts on education and creativity

Good morning. How are you? It’s been great, hasn’t it? I’ve been blown away by the whole thing. In fact, I’m leaving. :-) Amazingly inspiring speech by Sir Ken Robinson.

I heard a great story recently, I love telling it, of a little girl who was in a drawing lesson, she was 6 and she was at the back, drawing, and the teacher said this little girl hardly paid attention, and in this drawing lesson she did. The teacher was fascinated and she went over to her and she said, “What are you drawing?” and the girl said, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” And the teacher said, “But nobody knows what God looks like.” And the girl said, “They will in a minute.”

Do you remember the story? No, it was big, it was a big story. Mel Gibson did the sequel, you may have seen it, “Nativity II.” But James got the part of Joseph, which we were thrilled about. We considered this to be one of the lead parts. We had the place crammed full of agents in T-shirts: “James Robinson IS Joseph!” He didn’t have to speak, but you know the bit where the three kings come in. They come in bearing gifts, and they bring gold, frankincense and myrhh.

This really happened — we were sitting there and we think they just went out of sequence, we talked to the little boy afterward and we said, “You OK with that” and he said “Yeah, why, was that wrong?” — they just switched, I think that was it. Anyway, the three boys came in, little 4-year-olds with tea towels on their heads, and they put these boxes down, and the first boy said, “I bring you gold.” The second boy said, “I bring you myrhh.” And the third boy said, “Frank sent this.”

You would love this speech, however, we want you to consciously evaluate the frame work of Dots Montessori's curriculum. We are proud to say that we are at par with the newer ways of education.

Here's the speech for you. Enjoy!

I think maths is very important but so is dance. Children dance all the time if they’re allowed to, we all do. We all have bodies, don’t we? Did I miss a meeting? :-)

And our task is to educate their whole being, so they can face this future — by the way, we may not see this future, but they will. And our job is to help them make something of it. Thank you very much.

Dots Montessori | HSR Layout | Bangalore

I touched different cultures, different languages, different talents - some spoke, some sang, and some danced. I found many interesting dresses all my friends looked great and my teachers commented about my willingness to participate. I looked, ran, danced and had a lot of fun...

And I saw a picture of me and my friends on my Dad's iPad :-)

Thoughts picked up from the words shared by our students.

Interview with Dots Montessori's Customer|Parent|

An Inspired Interview:

I thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my experience with dots Montessori HSR Layout, Bangalore.

First, I had a warm welcome by cheerful people. We were guided to settle down for a discussion about the curriculum and culture Dots adopt. Jaden my son was a little out of place and started to seek attention from us. Quickly the lady incharge called upon an attendant and instructed her to take care of Jaden.

Jaden started to play and we continued with our discussion. Jaden in about 10 mins started to like the place. If you allow me to list down the advantages of Dots Montessori | HSR Layout, here's how it would look:-

1. The Montessori is one big hall and not an apartment with many stairs.
2. There is a verandah where children can play, run, chalk down their wild imagination, or spread out a mat and eat when hungry.
3. A small sand area with a swing and a slide; enough to teach sharing and taking turns to play.
4. A place for gardening, getting the kids close to nature and to nurture from seed to saplings.

5. Toilets are clean and hygiene for kids to use.
6. Teacher to student ratio is well thought and apt for giving each kid their needed attention.
7. They are also a feeder to Bethany, which is an additional bonus.
8. Competitive pricing compared to all other apartment based Montessori(s)

If you ask me to list down the dis-advantages in the Montessori(s) around my area. The list would look like this :-

1. House converted to a play school
2. Fear of climbing up and down the stairs
3. Children to teacher ratio is 1 (teacher) handles 20 children
4. All children stuffed inside a 10:15 sq mtr bed room
5. Very Expensive Fees structure; because of the big name
6. I paid Rs.250/- to seek an application form and that too, to a teacher who did not even ask my son's name. :-)

Thank you again for asking me to share my experience. This infact is new in the Montessori culture :-)

Best Regards,
