Rolling Mat at Dots Montessori, HSR Layout, Bangalore

Dots Montessori at HSR Layout trains kids on Respecting personal & work zones. Best way to teach & learn early in their childhood.

As you watch the video, you will notice an exercise that the child is made to do; the activity is called Rolling Mat.

teaching kids the greater science of well-being through rolling mats

The child is made to spread the mat, defining the zone for them to operate in. Materials are made available on the space of the mat and the child gets to work; using just the area the mat covers. And then Roll the mat and clear the work-space. What does it teach them?

Surprisingly everything that they need to know about individual spaces. Here’s an image for your quick reference.

Best Montessori way to teaching kids to respect personal zones.

In the picture above; the OK space is beyond the spread mat area. The NOT OK space is when the kid tries to get inside the mat area.

Now the lessons;

1. Respect other’s work area OR personal zone.
2. Avoid getting into other’s personal or work zone until called for.
3. Cleaning up the work stations after completion of work.

Brilliant isn’t it? This ethic of respecting personal & work zones of others; when applied at work, at home, at public places brings-in greater fulfillment in peace.

And I'm sure you would personally may know half-a-dozen of adults around us; who might need this training badly, isn't it?  :-)

And Some more exercise:- Share your thoughts as to what do you personally think, the child is learning from the following videos:

Best Montessori way of spending summer : Dots Montessori HSR Layout

Summer Holiday camp at Dots Montessori, HSR Layout

Summer is here and slowly fading away ☺ But we had fun during summer!

We LEARNT how to re-use things. We LEARNT how to PROTECT our environment by recycling used materials; all under the theme of “ENVY ME” at Dots. What a joy it was to see children connect with nature so well. Teaching them, in fact watching them play, make mistakes, laugh, & run-around was even more exciting for the teachers. What a fun filled environment it was during our summer camp.

Children created playful things out of used materials; wore them, danced, sang, & laughed with those costumes on. Some stills, captured during those playful moments.

Displayed their talented ability to think and create useful things to their parents was indeed a touchy moment for both the parent and the kid. Overwhelmed with the sense of achievement, kids really got the hang of creating useful things through re-cycling process.

Theme: “Envy Me” at Dots Montessori

Recycling lessons during summer at Dots Montessori at HSR layout

Objective: Application of 4 R’s in our day-to-day life [Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, & Recycle]
Activity: Move around the nature and apply these 4 R’s [Children did Great, I must acknowledge] Activity also included Story telling, Theatre games, Music, Art & Craft.

Each day was a refreshing moment of learning and understanding. Day would typically begin with exercises to Breathe, Stretch and Bend, Treasure Hunt, Pop-a-Balloon and more. Few other notable activities included Sandwich Art, Frooty Scoop, Treesome, Leafy Owls, Little Turtle, Enactment and finally Rock & Roll into School soon ☺

I’m sure you had fun during summer too. Share your experience with us.
Till then, Happy Dots-“Everything is there.”

Best Montessori way of learning geometric cabinet : Dots Montessori

Dots Montessori School in Bangalore uses the best methods to teach

Geometric Cabinet to Kids.

Geometric cabinet is a part of the sensorial learning and here at Dots Montessori School in Bangalore: HSR Layout; we teach children to recognize shapes through these simple wooden pieces cut in the shape of a rectangle and square.

Materials :
A wooden cabinet with 6 drawers and a presentation tray. Each drawer and the tray contain 6 wooden divisions. In most of the divisions, there is a wooden inset with a knob to lift it out. The inset and the bottom of the drawer are painted the same color blue. The square frames of the insets are a contrasting wood color and are removable. In the presentation tray as, in some drawers where there are not 6 insets, the remaining square divisions are whole.

Presentation Tray
Contains the basic geometric figures (circle, square, and triangle). The circle is the calculator of angles. The square is the measurer of areas. The triangle is the constructor of the other figures.

Drawer 1

Contains 6 circles increasing in diameter from 5cm to 10cm.

Drawer 2
Contains 1 square and 5 rectangles, the bases vary from 10cm to 5cm, while the height remains the same.

Drawer 3Contains 6 triangles: equilateral, acute-angled isosceles, right-angled isosceles, obtuse-angled isosceles, right-angled scalene, obtuse-angled scalene.
Drawer 4
Contains 6 regular polygons: pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, and decagon.

Drawer 5
Contains 4 quadrilaterals: rhombus, parallelogram, right-angled trapezoid, isosceles trapezoid, and 1 triangle – acute-angled scalene.

Drawer 6
Contains curved figures: curvilinear triangle, ellipse, oval, and quatrefoil.

3 sets of cards, matching each figure in the geometric cabinet:
Card Set 1 With figures completely filled in.
Card Set 2 With figures in a think outline.
Card Set 3 With figures in a thin outline.

Process :
- Using your right thumb and index finger, pinch the knob of the circle and lift the circle out slowly of its inset.
- Gently place the circle in the middle of the empty wooden space above.
- Lift the square inset in the same manner and place it below in the empty wooden space.
- Lift the triangle in the same manner and place it above in the empty wooden space.
- Lift the circle by the knob as before but this time with your left fingers.
- Rotate the circle slightly to the vertical position.
- Place two of your right fingers on the edge of the circle nearest you and trace the edge of the circle all
  the way around.
- Remove your right fingers and then repeat the tracing of the edge.
- Place the circle on the empty wooden space.
- Trace the inset edge of the circle in the same manner as above and using your two right fingers.
- Repeat the tracing of the inset.
- Gently replace the circle into its inset.
- Repeat in the same manner for the square and then for the triangle.

This activity also helps the child enhance concentration, coordination, increase order and independence; broadens problem solving duration, and prepares them to hold a pencil to begin with before they understand geometry completely. Activity is for children between the age of 3 to 4 years.

Best Montessori learning in Bangalore : Numbers

Best Montessori based learning in Bangalore

Dots Montessori in Bangalore using the Best ways to teach numbers from 1 to 100 through a Number Board

Children working on 1 to 100 number board. This material helps the child to count linearly from 1 to 100. There are small square pieces of tiles numbered each from One to Hundred.

There's also a reference card which is used to refer back when in doubt.

The numbers are arranged in sequence from one to hundred and here at Dots our team works in encouraging the kids to help them understand Sharing, Bonding, Friendship, Communication and taking turns. This work is for children between the of age 4 to 5years.

Is your child sharing, waiting for his/her turn while playing in a group? These activities in fact help the child not only to build skills to recognize numbers, but also the needed qualities without going through the "cane mode"

Dots Montessori School in Bangalore celebrated HOLI

Dots Montessori School in Bangalore celebrated HOLI

Dots Montessori in Bangalore celebrates Holi

What a way to connect with colours. Kids had so much fun playing with different colours as they sprayed those in the thin air. They were so excited to see those bright vibrant colours of pink, orange, and green. Awesome experience in just watching them play...

Holi Colors used at Dots Montessori School Bangalore were herbal and safe on skin.
We specifically chose not to buy without due checks.

This colourful festival celebrated in March marks the entry of Spring. Colours combined with music and dance brought all the more joy and kids expressed their happiness in their own sweet, charming way. We just enabled that moment of joy to stay and captured it for their future recall.

Dots montessori in Bangalore conducts colouring activities for kids

Dots Montessori in Bangalore, conducts colouring activities for children. Dots montessori, Bangalore | HSR Layout

Colours are a visual treat. When we take a stroll out in the nature, we get to see a variety of colours and shades  in the leaves, flowers, fruits, birds , animals and so on and so forth..

Having seen all these wonderful colours, our kids at DOTS Montessori Bangalore, explore, enjoy, and eventually bring out an artist in themselves. They have great fun learning and colouring pictures.

Parents have always think and wondered what their child does in a Bangalore Montessori classroom and how the teachers guide them in their everyday activities to bring out their hidden potential in a way the child enjoys.

Take home Montessori: An orientation program for parents organized by DOTS Montessori Bangalore.

The important take home message was how parents can further extend the Montessori way of learning while at home. The activities done at home can be a part of any of the five areas of Montessori. For example:
Setting the curd, cleaning the vegetables, dressing up, paper cutting will be part of practical life.

Different smells at home, shape/color game, watering plants can be part of Sensorial.
Get me plates, spoons, glasses, vegetables, reading clock can be math. Start a story and let your child complete it, memory games can help language.

Teaching how water from the sump goes to the tank, Comb-bits of paper (Static energy) can be cultural.

There was a self assessment form to be completed by parents which helps think how as parents can be an important part in a child's development after a guide.

There was active participation from parents as they had a chance to work with some of the materials that children work on while in a classroom.

The session was concluded with a PARENT'S PRAYER's :To be a guide, Mentor, Friend to the child.

Montessori Bangalore, Amazing videos of kids DOTS montessori, HSR layout

Montessori Bangalore, Amazing videos of kids actively engaged at DOTS montessori, HSR layout

Planting seeds:

Growing up with nature is like growing up with the mother. Just as the Mother protects the child,        nurtures with love and knowledge and gives warmth throughout to help the child grow up into a wonderful human being, so does the soil, water and sunlight helps the seed to grow into a beautiful plant or a tree. Here, at DOTS we help them understand how each element is important for the growth of  the seed and getting them close to nature gives them great joy and happiness.

Shapes:

Children come across so many different objects in their everyday life, it is so amazing to see our kids at DOTS enjoy so much to touch and feel these different objects and discover shapes in them.

Folding Napkins:

Our kids here at DOTS enjoy and take so much pride when they realize moving their tiny fingers on a napkin from left to right and from top to bottom can make it look so great and neat!!  An achievement.

Addition:

Oh! What joy can a child experience while they learn to do addition (Math) in a fun yet interesting way using color pebbles. At  DOTS, our kids who are 4 years learn math and enjoy working them out so beautifully.
